Under the stewardship of the Lake Tanganyika Authority Secretariat and with assistance from The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the African Great Lakes (AGL) conference and the North American Great Lakes Inform, the African Great Lakes Information Platform (African Great Lakes Inform) is taking a Great Lakes to Great Lakes approach – combining the strength of our collective global experience, knowledge and partnerships to establish an internet based information exchange platform to be launched during the African Great Lakes conference. This information platform is currently in the planning and demonstration stage.

Our goal is to provide a site that can serve as the first stop for information on conservation and sustainable development programmes in several key lakes and associated river basins: Lake Albert, Lake Edward, Lake Kivu, Lake Malawi/Niassa/Nyasa, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Turkana, and Lake Victoria. This site has the potential to enhance information and resource sharing across the region and assist with local, regional, and large-scale natural resource planning, implementation and decision-making processes. The platform is funded through private foundations and the idea has been refined through meetings of the African Great Lakes Conference Organizing and Technical Committees.
