The Conservation Leadership Programme provides conservation awards on an annual basis to support the work of early career conservationists. There are three grant levels to allow teams to scale up their initial projects: Starting with a Future Conservationist Award, teams are supported to undertake small-scale research and awareness-raising projects.
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) provides grants to nongovernmental and private sector organizations to help protect biodiversity hotspots, Earth's most biologically rich yet threatened areas. Grant recipients range from small farming cooperatives and community associations to international organizations. Every grant helps implement an investment strategy found in the ecosystem profile for each region where we invest.

The Crowder-Messersmith Conservation Fund helps small, local conservation and/or education projects in developing countries. Its grants provide seed money to communities and individuals whose projects have not attracted major support from other sources. The Fund honors Orville Crowder and Don Messersmith, two leaders in nature tourism, as a means to further global nature conservation.
The Disney Conservation Fund supports the study of wildlife, the protection of habitats, the development of community conservation and education programs in critical ecosystems and experiences that connect kids to nature across the globe. Since it was founded in 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has helped protect more than 400 million species and has given more than $45 million to conserve wildlife and wild places through its annual conservation grants program.
African Great Lakes (AGLs) contribute 2.7 million tonnes (~25%) to global inland fisheries production (11.9 mt) annually. This is composed of large species (> 20 cm total length, TL) and small pelagic species (< 20 cm, TL). At the turn of the 20th century, fisheries of the AGLs were dominated by large species (tilapine cichlids, Lates spp, cat fishes, Mormyrids, etc.) and management concentrated on these species.
The project aims to support 720 households in 24 cooperatives with 6 cooperatives per hill. It will provide vegetable material from the cultivation of sweet potatoes and market gardening crops (cabbage, egg plant, amaranth and tomatoes). The project will also support co-operatives on agricultural techniques adapted to climate change. The cooperative approach will facilitate project monitoring and sustainability.
In order to increase productivity and combat food insecurity, a goat breeding project was initiated. These goats allowed 46 indigenous households to have manure for soil improvement and thus increase their agricultural productivity.
Over 800 million people are malnourished and the global population is growing, and at the current trend 9 out of 10 children living in poverty in 2030 will be from Sub-Saharan Africa. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Zero hunger and the SDG Life below water'promote the conservation and sustainable use of aquatic resources for sustainable development.
This project aimed to inform and strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders, especially civic society organizations (CSOs) on standard environmental conventions, GEF/small grant functioning, writting proposals, and project management. This project also trained CSOs on how to partner with local communities at the site of two landscapes (Mugere-Nyamusenyi and Cohoha-Rweru), and set up the framework for dialogue between the Ministry of Water, Environment, Land Management and Urban Planning (MEEATU) and civil society organizisation for improving coordination and avoid duplication.
