Water has long been ignored by international climate conferences. However, COP21 (Paris, 2015) and COP22 (Marrakech, 2016) saw the organization of official high-level events on water and climate and the launch of a Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA) dedicated to water, with four Alliances created to implement it: the Global Alliances for Water and Climate (GAWC), gathering the Basin Alliance ( Paris Pact ), the Business Alliance, the Alliance of Megacities and the Desalination Alliance. The International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) is in charge of the Secretariat of the GAWC. In this responsibility, it has launched an incubation platform in response to two recurring requests: the request of a quality adaptation project from the donors and the request of support to comprehend the vast landscape of International financial institutions (IFIs) and to comply with the complex procedural requirements of IFIs. The objective of this Incubation platform is to gather a pool of experts from the Alliances members (which include among others UNESCO, UNECE, CEO Water Mandate, Suez, Veolia, Carbon Disclosure Project, the SIAAP) to provide support for the technical and financial development of projects of adaptation to climate change in basins. Given its vulnerabilities to the impacts of climate change, as well as the need to build its capacities, Africa is being targeted as the main beneficiaries of the incubation platform. This intervention will present the incubation platform, the projects its supports and the opportunities it represents for project holders of the African Great Lakes region.
